The Road Back, The Road AheadWhat a Journey to Lake Superior Revealed About This Season of Life

For several years, a trip to northern Wisconsin had been quietly calling me. The lakes, the pine trees, the small towns, and the memories of summers spent there as a child lingered in the back of my mind. This May, I finally answered that call.
My friend Tereasa and I set out on a road trip that took us through Lindström, Minnesota, to Hayward, Wisconsin, and eventually to the shores of Lake Superior in Bayfield. Along the way, I revisited places that held pieces of my childhood and stood in spaces that felt both familiar and new. There is something powerful about returning to a place after decades away. I felt the familiar energy, but as a different person.
Some of my favorite moments weren't the destinations at all. They were the conversations in the car that made time fly, the laughter, the shared meals, the quiet mornings on the water, and the joy of having someone beside me to share it all.
For years, I have traveled solo, and those journeys have taught me confidence, resilience, and self-reliance. But this trip confirmed something I had already begun to feel in my heart: I am ready to share these adventures with someone. Some moments become even richer when witnessed alongside another person.
As I stood along the shoreline of Lake Superior, I found myself reflecting on the patience this season of life has required. There are dreams that arrive quickly, and there are others that unfold in their own time. I am learning to trust that God is at work in both.
This trip reminded me that life is about staying open to beauty, friendship, unexpected joy, and the possibility that what we are waiting for may already be on its way toward us.
For now, I carried home a grateful heart, memories both old and new, and a quiet confidence that the next adventure will arrive exactly when it is meant to.
Peace,
J~
